UPHOLSTERY GUIDE / UPDATED OCTOBER 5, 2026
What changes a sofa or sectional cleaning estimate?
A sofa estimate should describe the actual piece, not force every couch into one flat category. The number of seats is a starting point, but fabric construction, loose cushions, recliners, pet residue and access can change the time and method. A few clear details help HD prepare a more useful estimate before the visit.

Size and construction
A three-seat sofa, an L-shaped sectional and a reclining sectional do not require the same setup. Chaises, pull-out beds, removable backs and double-sided loose cushions add surfaces that must be inspected and cleaned. Tell HD how many connected sections and loose cushions the piece has.
Fabric and cleaning code
Natural fibers, blends and common synthetics can react differently to moisture, heat and agitation. The cleaning tag is useful, but the technician still checks the fabric and tests an inconspicuous area. Delicate trim, loose dye or prior damage may require a lower-moisture approach.
Soil, spots and odor
General body oil is different from a drink spill, pet accident or an odor that has reached the cushion insert. Share what happened, how long ago and what product was already used. That information helps prevent incompatible spot treatments and supports a realistic conversation about what may remain.
Access and combined work
Stairs, narrow doors, apartment rules and the distance from parking can affect setup. If chairs, a mattress or carpet are being considered in the same visit, list them together. HD can then plan equipment and give one clear scope rather than treating each item as a surprise.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Before you book
Can HD price a sofa from a photo?
Photos and measurements can support an initial estimate. The final scope and price are confirmed after the technician sees the fabric and condition and before work begins.
Are all cushions included automatically?
Do not assume so. Show both sides of loose cushions and state which surfaces you want cleaned so the estimate matches the requested work.
Does every stain come out?
No. The outcome depends on the stain, fiber, age and previous products. Professional cleaning can improve many spots without guaranteeing total removal.
